My best holiday ever? Last year I went to Nicaragua with the family – an amazing destination which felt really pioneering and adventurous. Apart from the country itself, and the amazingly friendly local people, there were loads of activities to enjoy including scree running, zip-wiring, surfing, cycling and kayaking. Never a dull moment!
I’d love to travel to Burma. I haven’t been there before but have always dreamt of visiting. Everything about the country sounds fascinating, especially right now with all the political changes going on. I also can’t wait to get back to Kashmir, a beautiful part of the world which I fell in love with 22 years ago while leading the last Explore tour there! In fact of all the countries I’ve travelled to India is the one that always blows my mind: the sheer variety of sights, sounds and smells is extraordinary, not to mention the amazing food!
I always travel with juggling balls (a great ice-breaker with local kids) and a camera, but my overall view on packing is you normally need less than you think you do. Pack, then take a third out: if you really get stuck you can buy stuff locally, often at a fraction of the cost.
