When people ask me for my favourite country I always think of Canada.  It’s such a huge and diverse place with the most amazing scenery, wildlife, activities, food and lovely, hospitable people. I had a fantastic winter journey there recently, travelling through Vancouver, Jasper, Lake Louise and Banff.

It was cold and the snow was great – we did cross country skiing and snow-shoeing through the mountains, with amazing scenery including frozen waterfalls, lakes and rivers. At the end of each day there were log fires and hot tubs to help us warm up. To top it all, after an exhilarating morning riding dog-sleds through the winter landscapes, my husband proposed to me on the frozen shores of Lake Louise!

On a more practical note, my traveller’s tip is simple – pack some earplugs. They’re invaluable for helping you sleep on plane journeys, overnight trains and buses, and in noisy city centre hotel rooms.
