'Never been a better time' to visit Brazil

People planning adventure holidays should pay a visit to Brazil, which is the "big success story" of South America and also because there has "never been a better time" to go.

These are the opinions of Evening Standard journalist Liz Hoggard, who wrote for the news provider about a trip she took to the country, particularly focusing on the second-largest city of Rio de Janeiro.

"I took a train up the Corcovada Mountain to visit the Christ the Redeemer statue, then pottered around the arty Santa Teresa neighbourhood, which is full of art and craft galleries," she said.

She added that the country - and, to a certain extent, the inhabitants of it - are stunning in their beauty.

Ms Hoggard noted: "I came away humbled by the architecture, style and gastronomy of Brazil. And utterly jealous of a population that can wolf down a five-course lunch then shop for bikinis."
