Brits enjoy a 'love affair' with Australia

Australia number one holiday destination for Brits, says tourist board

Many Britons may be planning an adventure holiday to Australia this summer in order to continue their "love affair" with the country, according to the Australian tourist board.

Rodney Harrex, general manager for the UK and Northern Europe at Tourism Australia, claimed that many Brits are keen to visit Australia as the two countries have so many historic and cultural links.

"Brits consistently say that Australia is the number one holiday destination they'd like to experience and they are inspired to visit by our weird and wonderful wildlife, the friendly locals and the opportunity to enjoy their own Aussie adventure," he said.

"If you want to see a kangaroo in the wild, have a beer in an outback pub or to sail Sydney's iconic harbour then you have to holiday in Oz!"

Mr Harrex added that the traditional holiday destinations such as Sydney, Ayers Rock and the Great Barrier Reef are still popular but revealed that many international visitors are now staying in Kangaroo Island and around Ningaloo Reef as they offer something "a bit different".
