Sensual Marrakech is sure to awe you with its 'sights and sounds'

Solo travellers can amble around the famous souks

Marrakech is a city that offers travellers on solo holidays a melodious and aromatic experience that tickles many different senses at once.

That is according to journalist Lynn Alexander, writing about the capital city of Morocco for online travel magazine Wanderlust.

Ms Alexander was also full of praise for the souks, the heady and fragrant markets native to the Arab world. In these marketplaces, people often expect you to barter with them, meaning you may purchase things at good value.

"The winding, narrow, covered streets tempt passers-by with eye-catching wares," she said. "The merchants joke and call out, keen to haggle for your custom."

The sights, sounds and smells of Marrakech all come together in Ms Alexander's quest to buy argan oil, which is produced from the kernels of the argan tree.

She says the dark oil, with a nutty smell, is often used for cooking, but light, unroasted argan oil is used in Morocco as a cosmetic oil.
