Area straddles Italy and Switzerland

Travellers planning a hiking holiday should take a trip to the Matterhorn, based in one of the most "beautiful" areas of Europe.

According to an article by Bianca Robinson, writing about the best tour holidays in the Daily Telegraph, the mountain - which is partly in Italy and partly in Switzerland - has an "unrivalled glory".

The writer suggested travelling around the area, perhaps on a hiking holiday, as it offers unparalleled views of the area. She suggested visiting the nearby towns, because they are "stunning".

"Experience the fine Alpine scenery of [the towns] nestling famously at the foot of the mighty Matterhorn," she wrote.

"Turn a corner and [there is] the Swiss national symbol, the Matterhorn, is revealed in its unrivalled glory."

The Matterhorn is known as Monte Cervino in Italian and Mont Cervin in French. Matterhorn is the mountain's German name, which translates as Meadow Peak.
