Solo holidays in Galle, Sri Lanka are 'wonderfully atmospheric'

Galle is 'like the perfect Sri Lankan curry', says travel writer

The city of Galle, in Sri Lanka, is "wonderfully atmospheric" and has "sensational" food, making it perfect for people planning solo holidays to the Indian subcontinent.

Mark Palmer, who wrote about the city in the Daily Mail newspaper, praised Galle in particular but also said that the whole of Sri Lanka is magnificent due to its "spicy curry, pinch-yourself views and the prettiest beaches".

The travel writer seemed not to be able to forget the food of the country, becoming somewhat fixated.

"Galle is like the perfect Sri Lankan curry: colourful, spicy, full of flavour and remarkably good for you," he writes

"There are spectacular vistas at every turn, such as that over Cinnamon Hill and across Dedduwa Lake. A guide will show you the table where [famous Sri Lankan mystic] Bawa took breakfast and where he loved to eat lunch."

Apart from the food, Mr Palmer also recommended taking a cycling trip down the dusty side roads of the city for unparalleled views of the beaches.
