Historical Seville is 'a time machine' of a city

City shows the dynamism of its hectic past

Spain's historical city of Seville is ideal for people planning solo holidays, as it offers travellers an area reminiscent of many different times.

That is according to Jeff Mills who - writing in The Wall Street Journal - called Seville a "time machine with modern charms".

Mr Mills also said that travellers on solo holidays will be able to see evidence of this city's dynamism wherever they look.

"No sooner have you transited through one of Spain's most modern airports than you find yourself in a maze of tiny, city-centre streets, little changed since medieval times," he writes.

"You can see signs of [a] rich history everywhere you turn in this wonderful city. There's the outstanding cathedral and its bell tower, known locally as the Giralda, all that now remains of the original mosque that stood on this site."

Seville is the capital of the southern Spanish region of Andalucia and is the fourth-largest city in the Iberian country overall.
