Solo holidays to Vietnam should take in the superb views

Vietnam is a paradise for people looking for relaxing sojourns, however it is also a great destination for people planning solo holidays, as the nation is "sublime".

That is according to Simon Calder, a travel writer, broadcaster and editor who has written on a vast range of destinations, in the Independent.

The travel expert outlined the climate and the culture as being two of the biggest reasons to travel to the country, but there is also the fantastic views the nation offers.

"[People travelling to Vietnam] discover a warm, welcoming nation whose exotic culture and cuisine is complemented by sublime landscapes," he said.

"The seascapes of Halong Bay [are a] UNESCO Heritage Site [and] the leading attraction in northern Vietnam, with dramatic limestone outcrops soaring from a (usually) serene sea."

Mr Calder is well-known for writing about a range of different destinations and has authored books about subjects as diverse as Cuba (entitled Cuba: In Focus) and hiking holidays in the Pyrenees, which was called Backpacks, Boots and Baguettes.
