Family package holidays are a great idea as kids 'thrive on adventure'

Travel to Turkey or Egypt on a holiday

People planning activity holidays should not be afraid of taking their children as they are often "surprisingly tough" and "thrive on adventure".

That is the opinion of Daniel Palmer, who is an author for the guidebook company Lonely Planet. He said that parents should not worry about taking family adventure holidays.

"Don't assume that children are a barrier to intrepid travel; they are surprisingly tough and thrive on adventure," he wrote on the Lonely Planet website," he said.

"The kids are always first to make people smile, and if they are too young to walk far you can often 'cheat' by hiring transport to villages close to the road."

Some great destinations for people planning family adventure holidays are Turkey - where groups can stay in a small harbour town and take part in watersports - and Egypt, where families can live and travel with Bedouin tribes to learn about their past.
