Country is ideal for hiking holidays or adventure holidays
People planning hiking holidays - or adventure holidays of any kind - could visit Greece, as the variety the country offers is almost unique.
That is according to Sofia Panagiotaki, director at the Greek National Tourism Organisation, who has suggested that "variety is Greece's … advantage", compared to other destinations.
"Whether [you desire] diving, countryside tourism, nautical tourism, sea sport facilities or skiing and snowboarding ... I would say variety is Greece's comparative advantage," she said.
"It is undeniable that the past few years most of the Mediterranean countries have been struggling to attract tourists, following a global economic crisis … however according to the latest figures on arrivals and bookings, we are confident of a recovery this year."
Travellers planning hiking holidays to Greece may like to visit the Aegean Islands for their unspoilt beauty.
The tourism board added that the tradition of wine is very strong in Greece - as it tends to be in Mediterranean locations.
