What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?

Getting to Stella Ridge and realising there was a spectacular sunrise right there. I was so busy putting one foot in front of the other I simply had not noticed until Julio, my guide turned off my headtorch and gestured towards it. That and of course reaching Uhuru a short time later

How was your Explore Tour Leader?

Whitey, our head guide was simply amazing, wise, kind, expert and inspirational

What tips would you give to someone else booking this tour?

"A thick down jacket I think is not only recommended but essential both for around camp but also for summit night.
A fleece sleeping bag liner for extra warmth.
Mountaineer's gloves and hand warmers. I thought I had good gloves but still had freezing hands on summit night.
Snacks for energy. Protein/muesli bars were good for the first few days but useless on summit night as they were frozen rock hard. Summit night requires squares of chocolate and energy gel sachets"

Do you have anything else to add?

It was a trip of a lifetime and a very special experience getting to the top. I felt a special bond with my fellow group trekkers. Don't underestimate the discomfort of camping at altitude. I think a successful Kili experience comes down to 50% fitness, 25% preparation (gear, tour selection, group dynamics) and 25% mental which includes following instructions from the guide which is basically eat, drink, rest, go slowly.

How was your Explore Tour Leader?

Fantastic! He got our group of 5 women over 60 to the top.

What tips would you give to someone else booking this tour?

Bring a decent sleeping bag, wet wipes and a Platypus or Camelback water system. I reckon drinking often helped stave off the effects of altitude. You walk so slowly you don't get sore legs but the summit day is gruelling and being fit really makes a difference then.

Do you have anything else to add?

The nights are cold and you will be filthy by the end but what a sense of achievement.
