What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?

Walking in brilliant sunshine under clear blue skies amongst flower strewn meadows, passing ancient tombs, listening to the buzz of bees amidst sweet smelling herbs on the hillsides, accompanied sometimes by goat - not a person in site - sheer bliss and a perfect antidote to the mean cold winter back home!

How was your Explore Tour Leader?

Excellent and thoughtful

What tips would you give to someone else booking this tour?

Bring good comfortable walking boots/shoes and a liking for unspoiled countryside, and fabulous vistas.  Camera of course is essential.

Do you have anything else to add?

Wished it had been longer.

How was your Explore Tour Leader?

Very good

What tips would you give to someone else booking this tour?

"Prepare! This is not a walk in the park. The terrain is more difficult than at home. Its only ""easy"" for the experienced and practised hiker. If participants have knee/hip problems it may be a struggle.
It was a very laid back, well organised trip. I was only a little dissapionted because the walking didn't present any challenge for me."

Do you have anything else to add?

Please change the wording in the brochure so those going will work on their fitness level.

What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?

This was our first visit to Turkey so we weren't quite sure what to expect although we are quite seasoned Explore travellers. The trip easily exceeded our expectations with superb weather, a great group and a really experienced tour guide. The highlight for me was probably the walk in the mountains finishing with lunch prepared by a local family in their home. The single base in Kas was also a highlight - Kas is a lively and friendly town with plenty to do in your spare time.

How was your Explore Tour Leader?

Our guide was Dave who is an ex-pat brit who has lived in Kas for 15 years so we had the benefit of him being very easy to communicate with but he has loads of experience and knowledge in the area and is clearly very committed to his job as tour leader. there is an optional trip across to a greek island across the bay and Dave gladly gave up his day off to accompany those of us who wanted to go which was much appreciated as we then had a guide to take us on a walk on the island.

The walks are each surprisingly different considering they are all fairly local - clearly a lot of work has gone into giving a wide experience of the area in just a one week trip. Some of the walks would certainly benefit from having a walking pole as there are some steep & quite rocky terrains.

The only negative point for us was the choice of hotel (Ekici Otel). We found the staff quite unhelpful and the breakfast was not really what we would have expected. Service was not available until 8am, there was no juice (unless you wanted to pay extra), they ran out of coffee on several days and even ran out of yoghurt on one day. A better choice of Hotel would have improved the overall experience.

What was the highlight or most memorable moment of your tour?

Waking along the Lycian Way in brilliant sunshine. Friends infront, friends behind. Smelling the scents of thyme, sage, marjoram and warm yellow broom. Ancient Roman stonework round every corner and glimpses of blue, blue Mediterranean between the pine trees. Heaven!

How was your Explore Tour Leader?

Dave our leader was endlessly patient with a good sense of humour. He is dedicated to the area, in particular the Lycian Way and passes on his love and knowledge of the countryside. He is well liked by the locals, which means that you are treated as Dave's friend not a tourist, especially nice in the small villages off the beaten track.

What tips would you give to someone else booking this tour?

The walking is described as 'easy'. That is walkers' talk. For ordinary mortals who are not used to walking holidays you may think the rocky terrain and scree is more 'medium'. Take the advice given by Explore and wear walking boots. You may find a walking stick useful. You generally have the chance to go for a dip in the sea at the end of a walk. Take it. Really helps the muscles and the swimming is fantastic.

Do you have anything else to add?

There is always something special about an Explore holiday. Hard to put your finger on it, but it generally boils down to feeling like a traveller not a tourist. This holiday lived up to that 'Explore'feeling.

This was my first trip with Explore, my first walking trip and my first trip to Turkey. On every level, the entire trip exceeded my expectations. The walks were varied - each one was different from the last. The scenery was stunning and completely different to what I thought Turkey would be like.

What I loved most was the combination of the walks and the historicl ruins. For me it was like walking through history at times - you could almost feel like a Roman soldier marching down the coast thousands of years ago. I would recommend this tour to anyone who wants to experience some varied walks through a spectacular part of the world with some visits to historic ruins. I can’t wait to go back!

A very enjoyable trip with some really good walks. Tour Leader Dave was a great guide and very knowledgable and experienced. Hard to decide on the best walk but I think I most enjoyed the mountains, even though it was raining. Tthe pancake lunch in the local house at the end of the walk was really tasty. There are some climbs and I would have taken my walking pole, I thought I wouldn't need it as it was graded easy.
