Tell us about yourself

I was born in Tramonti (Amalfi Coast), Italy, in 1969. I worked as a lawyer until 2017. Then, I worked for 4 years as an hotel manager. I've always had a great passion for my territory and for hiking and, for this reason, when I was younger, I studied to become a Hiking Guide. Now I'm a Certified Hiking Guide and this is my only job!

Which Explore tours do you lead?

I lead individuals and groups mainly on the Amalfi Coast, where I have always lived and therefore, I know it very well. Trips include Amalfi Coast Walking – Agriturismo; Amalfi Coast Walking – Hotel Risorgimento; and Amalfi Coast Walking - Coastal Hotel.

How long have you worked for Explore?

I have been an Explore tour leader since 2023.

What is your favourite local food?

My favourite food is lasagna (handmade pasta with eggs, mozzarella and meat). It’s even better if it’s made by my mother!

What do you most love sharing with Explore groups?

Mainly the amazing history of the Amalfi Coast, which is about 3000 years old. But generally, I share everything, from local habits and lifestyles to traditions and more.

What are you most proud of in your country?

Italy is a mix of cultures perfectly integrated. It is an inclusive, peaceful and welcoming country to everyone. This makes me really proud.

What do travellers find most surprising when they visit?

The safety, humanity and kindness of the local people, the archaeological evidence, the views and the incredible biodiversity present in our valleys.

Melanie, Explore customer:

“Gennaro was excellent - nothing was too much trouble. He was kind, considerate and generous with his time. He made sure that the whole trip ran like clockwork. His passion for the region was infectious and he made sure that we had the best experiences possible.”
