Walking adventures

February is one of the warmest months of the year in Tanzania, so it is a great time to take on the challenge of climbing Kilimanjaro. Follow our local guides along the lesser-travelled but scenic Lemosho route, traversing through ever-changing variations of landscapes and wildlife. As you reach the summit, you may be lucky enough to see the curvature of the earth on the horizon and, although it will undoubtedly feel cold at this high altitude, the chill factor will be less severe at this time of year.

Alicante, Spain

Not only is Alicante in Spain a fantastic winter-sun destination with a temperate climate all year round and over 300 days of sunshine, but February is also the best time to witness the arrival of spring in the Alicante Mountains. Join our Walking Holiday in Spain to trek along the northern slopes of the Aixorta peak and catch sight of vast almond groves bejewelled with pink blossom, veiling the rugged landscape in a sea of colour.

Cultural discovery in the winter sun

February is at the end of Oman’s winter, so temperatures are pleasant and the rainy season is coming to an end. Immerse yourself in the bustling souks of Muscat, camp under the stars on a wild and rugged beach on the shores of the Arabian Sea, and watch the sun dip behind the towering honey-hued dunes of the Wahiba Sands for an unforgettable winter-sun adventure.

Avoid the crowds and explore the Philippines in February when the weather is typically dry and fewer people visit. Head to Luzon, the largest island of the archipelago to get a great view of Banaue's 2,000-year-old rice terraces, wander down the cobbled streets of Spanish colonial towns, make a splash in the turquoise waters of the China Sea and hike up an active volcano to take in far-reaching panoramic views of a caldera lake.

Enjoy some winter sun and take a cultural tour of Mexico in February. Step back in time and discover the timeworn pyramid of Chichen Itza, and explore the Maya tomb of Palenque, before cooking up a storm with a local family as you try your hand at some traditional Mexican dishes. The climate at this time of year is warm and dry (more comfortable than the high summer temperatures) and you can avoid the crowds who tend to flock here in December and January.

Half term adventures

Slovakia and Poland

For an unforgettable February half term adventure, embark on a trip to the winter-wonderland landscapes of Slovakia and Poland. Covered in a glistening blanket of snow, the family will love this natural winter playground. Take a ride on a snowcat to a mountain-top supper, whizz down a ski slope on an inflatable snow tube, carve up some tracks on a Skifox (like a bike on skis!) and take a cookery masterclass preparing a traditional three-course Slovak meal.

Ice adventures

If viewing the Northern Lights is on your bucket list, February is a great month to try and catch a glimpse of this striking natural phenomenon. Join our Iceland Winter Adventure and head into the vast icy plains of rural Iceland for the best chance of seeing the colourful auroras. Keep looking up under the fall of darkness, and you might be lucky enough to see the distinctive flashes of fluorescent green and purple shooting across the dark starry skies.

Enjoy a spectacular display of ice sculptures at the Sapporo Snow Festival on the Japanese island of Hokkaido at the beginning of February. Mythical creatures, intricately decorated buildings and popular movie characters are all carved out of ice in this frozen wonderland. Quench your thirst and warm up with a hot drink at a bar made entirely of ice, and take a tour of the Sapporo Brewery to sample the oldest beer brand in Japan.

Cycling adventures

Explore Burma by bike in February to catch the end of the cool season. The lower temperatures make time in the saddle more pleasant, and you’ll avoid the monsoon rains at this time too. Cycle along trails between traditional villages and meet the friendly local people of this largely undiscovered land. Follow your local guide on roads and tracks less-travelled as you explore the stilted villages of Inle Lake and meander through the temple-studded plains of ancient Bagan.

Murcia, Spain

With a semi-arid climate and mild winter temperatures, the Spanish region of Murcia is a fantastic destination for a winter cycling holiday. Feel the warmth of the sun on your back as you jump on the saddle and pedal along quiet roads into the beautiful countryside surrounding Cieza. February is also the best time to see the almond and apricot blossom, known locally as ‘La Floracion’; a sea of pink and white flowers flows through the valleys against a backdrop of low mountains and blue skies, marking the beginning of Spring.
