The Amalfi Coast. It's one of the most iconic European destinations for a reason, drawing millions of visitors every year with its coastal charm, colorful buildings, and clifftop views. This 50 kilometer (30-ish mile) stretch of southern Italian coastline runs from Sorrento to Salerno is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a must-visit region, but what's the best way to experience everything it has to offer?

Whether you're the type to lace up your boots and hike your way to clifftop views, or someone whose idea of a perfect Italian day is sipping a limoncello while learning about history and culture in a sunny piazza, Amalfi is for you.

Two of our favorite ways to explore? Walking the Amalfi Coast, where every day features ancient paths, lemon groves, and jaw-dropping scenery, and Amalfi Coast Discovery, a culture-packed adventure through charming town and historic sites with plenty of pasta (and yes, limoncello) along the way.

Ready to pick your perfect Amalfi getaway? Let’s compare the hikes, the history, and everything in between.

Amalfi for the Trailblazers

You'll hike through terraced lemon groves and olive farms along paths that have been in use for centuries, starting and ending each day relaxing at an intimate family-run agriturismo.

Amalfi Hikes

Hiking an average of just over 6 miles per day, you'll walk all kinds of terrain, from well-worn (and sometimes steep!) stone steps to rugged mule trails. Over the course of the week, you'll hike from the village of Bomerano to San Lazzaro to take in unbelievable coastal views of the Pino Gorge, hike past farms between Ravello and Amalfi, explore the Ferriere Nature Reserve's rare flora, and breathe in the scent of bougainvillea as you climb the limestone cliffs of Capri. Hiking is a truly great way to experience the landscape of this incredible region.

Iconic Italian Destinations

Off the trail, you'll have plenty of time to explore the Moorish architecture and tranquil atmosphere of Ravello, visit the harbor town of Amalfi to take in the ancient Roman basilica, cool off with a swim on a public beach, and hop on a boat to the famous island of Capri. There's also opportunities to join pizza, pasta, and mozzarella cooking classes, and to visit the unique and historic Pompeii and Herculaneum, rounding out the trip with a bit of culture and history.

Amalfi Hiking at its Best

No hiking tour of the Amalfi Coast would be complete without the Walk of the Gods, one of the most breathtaking coastal hikes in the world. This trail features postcard-perfect views of Capri, Positano, and the Bay of Salerno.

From trails and hidden villages to farm-to-table dinners and unforgettable views, Walking the Amalfi Coast is perfect for those who want to see Amalfi up close, one step at a time.
