Highlights of Madagascar

Antananarivo, also known as 'Tana,' is the capital of Madagascar. Tiers of red-roofed medieval-looking houses cover the hillsides, and the busy streets are lined with colourful shop fronts. Take our Madagascar wildlife tour and stop at a local food shack to try creamy fish curries and delicious salady voankazo (vanilla-spiked fresh fruits with lichee nuts), and head to Ambohimanga, home to the oldest palace in Madagascar, to discover panoramic views over fertile rice fields and verdant countryside. 

Rise early to go in search of Golden Bamboo lemur in Ranomafana National Park. Endemic to forests in South-Eastern Madagascar, these rare lemurs are sadly critically endangered, as are many of Madagascar's lemur species. Walk deep into the cloud forest to uncover pearly-white waterfalls, as well as Malagasy boa constrictor, chameleon, black parrot and cuckoo roller. Spend the night camping in the heart of the forest and take a dip in warm thermal baths on the banks of the Namorona River. 

Sun-bleached colonial buildings line the streets of Antsirabe in the Central Highlands of Madagascar. Once a holiday hotspot for European missionaries, their influence can be clearly seen in the local architecture, including the numerous thermal baths. Take a ride in a brightly painted rickshaw, browse street-side market stalls overflowing with handmade wares, and sample deep-fried mofo-anana bread, crispy nem (egg rolls) and juicy kebabs.
