Tell us a bit about yourself. What’s your background and how long have you been leading walking holidays?
I grew up in a family of hill walkers and spent many years in the Alps and High Atlas Mountains. I’ve always had a love of the outdoors and currently live in the French Pyrenees. I have been working with and leading tours for Explore for over 10 years in many parts of the world both walking and cycling.
Which walks do you lead for Explore? Any favourites?
I’ve walked in a diverse range of places from the Greek Islands, Turkey and Cyprus to the Middle East, India and China. I just love all the mountain vistas from everywhere in the Himalaya, it just takes your breath away.
What are your favourite places in the world to walk and trek?
Small islands hold a particular fascination for me - the Windward Isles and French Antilles in the Caribbean and the Levada Trails of Madeira.
What is on your walking/trekking bucket list and why?
Anywhere in the Andes, Peru and the Inca Trail to experience the Latin American culture, more amazing mountains and of course one of the new Seven Wonders of the World, Machu Picchu.
Any leading experiences or stories to share?
When leading tours over the festive period we were sharing a picnic on a mountain pass for lunch on Christmas Day and singing carols. It was great to share a little of our Christmas cheer in faraway places much to bemusement and laughter of the locals.
Any top tips for those contemplating a walking or trekking holiday?
Embrace the challenge, it is so rewarding, read the other passenger reviews on the website, there is nothing like hearing it from someone who has already done the trip. Always travel in your walking boots and don't forget your trekking poles!
