Riding from Porto to Lisbon
The northern journey begins in Porto, a city that seems to glow with color. Streets tumble down to the Douro River, lined with tiled churches and the famous port wine lodges. From here, the road leads south along the Atlantic, where you might pause in Aveiro, a town of painted boats and winding canals. Further down the coast, Nazaré greets you with crashing waves, legendary among surfers.
The route threads through quieter towns, too, where time seems to move a little slower and you can linger over a coffee or a plate of grilled sardines. Soon you reach Obidos, its medieval walls circling cobbled streets and whitewashed houses. Then comes the final stretch to Lisbon, the city of seven hills, where trams clatter through sunlit squares and the river opens wide to the sea. Rolling into the capital by bike feels especially rewarding, as though you’ve arrived not just at a destination but at the end of a story you’ve written with every turn of the pedals.
