Top 5 Reasons to Visit Jordan with the Family

With its ancient ruins, hidden cities, wild desert and untouched coral reefs, Jordan is the perfect family playground.

Sarah Knox, IT Service Delivery Manager took her family on our Family the Lost City of Petra trip to Jordan. Here she gives her top 5 reasons to take your family to Jordan.

Exploring the secret tunnels of a crusader castle

Shobak castle’s imposing position high up on a plateau conjures up visions of sieges as our guide explained the history. We loved the fact you can wander around taking in the vista from up high, and there are secret tunnels which the children loved exploring. Take a torch and go back in time!

Walk around the splendour of Petra

Walking through the Siq and arriving at the Treasury is a sight to behold. Being able to get up close to these magnificent structures was fantastic. There is so much to see and do and the children loved scrambling in and out of caves and climbing over rocks. We even managed to convince the girls to count the 800+ steps up to the High Place of Sacrifice. It was worth the climb for the breath-taking views of Petra. They were rewarded with a donkey ride on ‘Pepsi’ and ‘Fanta’ back up through the Siq.

Dinner in a Bedouin cave at Little Petra

Spending the evening with the group in a Bedouin cave was a fantastic social event. With the clear starry night and candles lighting the way into the cave the experience was totally magical. Sitting together eating delicious local food, drinking endless cups of mint tea and learning Bedouin songs is something we will treasure forever.

Camel trekking and camping in Wadi Rum

Arriving at the camp by 4WD after passing through spectacular scenery was a highlight. After a settling in to the impressive remote camp we embarked on an epic group camel trek. The children loved riding the camels as we passed through tight valleys and trudged over sand dunes. Arriving back at camp our host had cooked a delicious Bedouin dinner using the traditional method of cooking in the ground.

Swimming and snorkelling in the Red Sea

In Aqaba our Leader had chartered a dive boat. Our girls loved exploring the boat and swimming in the gorgeous clear warm waters of the Red Sea gazing at the colourful coral and counting the fish. The trip was topped off by a pod of dolphins jumping and splashing alongside the boat as the sun set on a fantastic holiday.
