Your guide to Andalucia

The sun-drenched region of Andalucia in Spain is rich in culture, breathtaking mountain scenery and fascinating history. Our small group tours will show you all the best sights as well as the hidden gems. Here is our quick guide to the highlights of Andalucia.

Grenada

Set in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, snow-dusted peaks create a magnificent backdrop for the grand and historical city of Grenada. A trip to the ornate Nasrid fortress of Alhambra Palace on our two-week Moorish Andalucia Trip reveals astonishing Moorish architecture and every step brings a new photo opportunity, with rose arches framing the charming courtyards, gently flowing fountains and perfectly manicured gardens. End a busy day of exploring with some delicious local tea and soak up the atmosphere of the Albayzin district, peppered with its iconic pomegranate symbols everywhere you look.

Cordoba

The Andalucian city of Cordoba is often overlooked, but it boasts a wealth of treasures amongst its winding cobblestone back streets and quaint plazas as you can discover on our Moorish Spain to Marrakech Tour. The highlight is the magnificent Mezquita Mosque-Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A blend of faiths have left their mark on this extraordinary place of worship over the years, telling the story of Cordoba's multi-cultural past. The dome of the mosque is gilded with gold, and its columns of jasper, onyx, marble and granite are linked together by striking striped arches.

Castaño de Robledo

Slow down the pace with a stay in the beautiful whitewashed rural village of Castaño de Robledo in the Sierra de Aracena National Park on our Highlights of Andalucia Tour. In the heart of chestnut and Black Iberian pig country, this otherworldly place boasts a plethora of pretty walks along drover routes sprawling through wooded valleys and verdant rolling hillsides. Colourful wildflowers sway in the breeze, whorls of ancient trees soar into the clear blue skies, and the burnt orange of stripped cork trees is an eye-catching feature of this picture-postcard landscape.

Seville

Discover ornate Mudejar architecture and absorb yourself in the stately home of the royals at the Real Alcazar Palace of Seville at the start of our Seville to Porto Cycling Holiday. Sit in the shadow Seville Cathedral's mighty gothic towers and enjoy a fresh salad of creamy goats cheese sprinkled with pine nuts. Follow your local guide to a secret spot where you can enjoy a glass of chilled white wine while watching a traditional flamenco show. And, if you have time, treat yourself to a traditional Hammam spa and well-deserved massage at the city's ancient steam baths.

Vejer de la Frontera

Jump in the saddle to crisscross vast emerald-green meadows towards the picturesque white-washed village of Vejer de la Frontera on our Andalucia Cycling Holiday. The cluster of hilltop pearly-white buildings gleams in the bright sunshine and alfresco cafes and restaurants entice you in for some delicious Spanish food to fuel your next ride. Pedal along the river Barbate and make your way to the golden sand beaches of Zahara de los Atunes to breathe in some fresh salty air and tip your toes in the glistening aquamarine sea.

Caminito del Rey

The area's most famous walking route is undoubtedly the ‘Caminito del Rey.’ Retrace the footsteps of King Alfonso XIII who traversed this route in 1921 as you make your way along the winding timber walkway that clings to the steep walls of a narrow gorge 100 metres above the river River Guadalhorce. Turquoise-blue waters trickle in between jagged boulders below and spectacular views of verdant hillsides stretch through the valley.
