Namibia tour highlights

We have a choice of small group vacations to Namibia, offering experiences that will take your breath away. From the deepest red of Sossusvlei’s dunes to the wide blue skies over the country’s game rich national parks, this is a country of technicolor.

To see it in all its glory our tours will take you through the quintessential Namibian landscapes: the ancient sand landscapes of the Namib Desert, the colonial towns of the coast, the wide savannahs of the national parks. Here are some of our top highlights of Namibia:

Sossusvlei
Sossusvlei’s burnished sand dunes are some of the highest and most spectacular in the world, up to 300 meters tall – the tallest is affectionately known as Big Daddy. Photographers will relish an early morning visit to photograph the dunes in the first rays of sunlight, as they glow a deep, almost otherworldly orange, or for sunset where the light changes to a scorched red. Very little water courses make their way here from the Tsauchab River valley, so the vegetation is sparse – still, you may be able to spot springbok and ostrich. On our Namibia Lodge Safari, our day in Sossusvlei will also see us continue on foot through the picturesque Sesriem Canyon, where pools of water attract a variety of birds and animals.
A herd of elephants at a waterhole in Etosha National Park, Namibia
Etosha National Park
Often described as one of Africa’s finest safari reserves, Etosha National Park is home to four of the Big Five animals – though buffalo can be found elsewhere in Namibia at Waterberg Plateau. Etosha's contrasting habitats means that it's particularly excellent for viewing wildlife, which comes to drink at the waterholes within the thick vegetation and dry salt pans. The dry winter months are particularly excellent for seeing rhino, elephant and herds of springbok. On our Namibia Camping Safari, you’ll get to stay under canvas in the wilderness for a true ‘Out of Africa’ experience, sleeping in a simple yet comfortable camp while exploring Etosha on game drives. The vast national park covers over 12,400 square miles – you’ll take a picnic to make the most of your time out in the park and return to eat supper around the campfire under a starlit night sky.

Namib Desert
The Namib Desert is the oldest desert in the world, believed to date back more than 80 million years. It stretches from the Atlantic Ocean and blankets much of Namibia and southern Africa, with endless dunes and wide, flat salt pans that, despite the harsh environment, manage to support a variety of species from zebra to hardy beetles. Some of Namibia’s most unearthly landscapes are courtesy of the Namib Desert, from the plunging inhospitable dunes of the Skeleton Coast to the white acacia-studded clay pan of Deadvlei, surrounded by Sossusvlei’s auburn dunes. The Namib is a great place for spotting some of Namibia’s desert-adapted wildlife, who are largely free-roaming. This includes Hartmann’s mountain zebra, black-backed jackal, cheetah and elephant. We visit the Namib Desert on our Lodge Safari tour, or if you've got more time to explore Africa check out our Namibia Lodge Safari + South Africa Garden Route tour

Solo Travel in Namibia

Every one of our Namibia vacations is suitable for solo travelers – in fact, you can expect that around half of your group will be traveling solo. The number varies depending on which tour you choose, but you'll certainly be in good company. Our small group vacations to Namibia are a great opportunity to meet like-minded people and share experiences along the way.

Best time to go to Namibia

The most popular time to visit Namibia is June to October when the temperatures are a bit cooler and the days are dry and bright. This dry season is also the perfect time to spot wildlife congregating around waterholes in Etosha National Park.

If you want to escape the crowds, head to Namibia in February and March. It will feel hotter and more humid, but you’ll be spoiled with sightings of migratory birds and lush green countryside.

April is the shoulder season when temperatures start to drop, rain is less frequent and lush vegetation is still bountiful - perfect for an Easter vacation getaway.
