Family Adventure Vacations

Create unforgettable memories together on a family adventure vacation. Designed with all ages in mind, Explore Worldwide’s range of family tours combines hands-on activities, cultural discovery and downtime to unwind. Every tour is scheduled around school breaks, so the whole family can join the fun.

About Our Family Adventures

Traveling is one of the best ways for explorers of all ages to learn, grow and discover a range of destinations around the world. Cruise the Nile and learn about the iconic sights and history of Egypt, explore Costa Rica’s incredible wildlife or dive into the vibrant culture and bustling cities of India.

Each trip is led by a professional tour leader, chosen for their expertise, enthusiasm and ability to create safe, enriching experiences for all ages.

Joining a small group tour means you'll share the experience with like-minded families, with opportunities to make friends and explore together. Group sizes usually range from 12 to 18 people, which is the perfect size to keep things personal and flexible.

Our itineraries include a mix of action-packed activities like snorkeling and kayaking, together with more relaxed adventures such as wildlife watching and cultural tours. For thrill-seekers, we also offer multi-activity trips that include ziplining, white-water rafting and canyoneering.

Whether you’re hiking an active volcano in Nicaragua or searching for sloths in Costa Rica’s rainforests, you’ll head home with stories to tell and memories that last a lifetime.

All trips are scheduled during school breaks and graded by activity level, from laid-back to high-energy, so you can choose what works best for your family.

Frequently Asked Questions About Family Adventures

How old are the children on these trips?

While the precise age of children varies by trip, the average age is 12–13. There’s always a minimum age for safety, which you’ll find listed on each tour page. If you’d like to know more, please contact our team.

Absolutely. We welcome all family structures. We offer single, twin or triple rooms and never charge extra for solo parents. With us managing the organization and logistics, you can focus on making memories with your family.
Learn more in our single-parent travel guide.

How many families join each trip?
Explore Worldwide family tours usually cater for between three and five families, with a total group size of 12–18 people. Large enough to meet new people, though small enough to keep it flexible and friendly.

Are the guides trained to work with families?
Yes. Our local tour guides are selected and trained to understand the needs of families. They're friendly, approachable and experienced in working with children.

Do the guides offer childcare?
No. Our leaders are responsible for tour planning and smooth running. While tour leaders will engage with children throughout the vacation, they do not provide childcare. Parents remain responsible for their children for the duration of the tour.

How much independence do children have?
Whilst parents remain responsible for their children throughout the tour, children often choose to spend time together as a group while adults relax nearby. This gives children the freedom to play together in a safe environment while adults enjoy downtime.

How active are the trips?
Explore Worldwide’s range of family tours offer everything from chill and relaxed breaks to more active adventures. Trips involving hiking, biking or other more intense activities are rated for difficulty. Check your chosen itinerary for details.

Can children or adults opt out of activities?
Of course! If you would prefer to not take part in a particular activity, feel free to explore independently or simply watch and relax.

What is the accommodation like?
We stay in a variety of places. From locally-owned hotels and guesthouses to homestays, and even the occasional unique stay such as safari lodges or boats. Check the trip itinerary for details.

Do hotels have swimming pools?
Where possible, yes. The majority of the hotels on our family tours have swimming pools. Plus, there are usually plenty of opportunities to swim in lakes, rivers and the sea.

How safe are Explore Worldwide family tours?
Safety is a top priority. All the hotels, vehicles and activities on our tours are regularly checked and our guides are trained in safety procedures.

What kind of travel insurance do I need?
You’ll need coverage for every country on your trip and any activities you’re planning to do. Your trip itinerary will list what’s involved.

What will the food be like?
In many countries, food is a big part of the culture. Our travelers will have the opportunity to enjoy the traditional cuisine of their chosen destination. Expect authentic, freshly prepared food in local restaurants. Milder options are regularly available for children and vegetarians should have plenty of choice.

What’s included in the price?
Your tour price includes accommodations, transport and most listed activities. Some meals and optional activities are left flexible so you can choose what works best for you.
