A major highlight of traveling on a small group Family Adventure is sharing your experiences with other families and having your children make new friends. 

Never been on a small group family tour? We've answered some the most-asked questions about how they work. 

You won't find any 40-seater tourist coaches on an Explore family adventure. To ensure you get the most out of your trip we keep our group sizes small. Our usual family group size is around 12 to 18 people. This allows us to experience different forms of transport, unique accommodation and adventurous activities, whilst getting off the beaten track to seek out the unexpected.

Traveling in a small, informal group makes it really easy for any family, large or small, to fit in and quickly make friends. Single parent families and families with only one child find the small group format works well. Extended families are welcome too and we often have grandparents, uncles and aunts joining the trip.

Our award-winning tour leaders have all been chosen by us for their knowledge, their passion and their experience in leading family groups. They're on hand to share their knowledge and look after logistics so you're free to enjoy yourselves and your time together as a family.

How old are children on family adventure vacations?

The average age of children on a trip varies depending on the vacation and destination - our trip pages shows the average age for each trip. If you'd like to know more about the people already booked onto a certain departure (family size, age of children etc), give us a call and we can help you choose a trip with similar aged children.

Are there any child discounts?
In 2024 we offer a discounted child price for children aged 11 and under. For 2025, this child discount applies to children of 16 and under.
