Flexible flying options with Explore

Explore offers a wide range of flexible flying options for you to choose from and will confirm your specific flights needs at the time of booking. If booking online, we will contact you with your alternative flight details if the proposed flights are no longer available or if anything has changed to those advertised on each of the departure dates.

On the majority of our tours a flight from London will be the proposed option, however you can if you prefer look into flying from a more convenient airport closer to where you live. Depending on the destination, there are usually options available for those who want to fly from their local airport or simply prefer to have a choice of alternative airlines or routes.

Check out your options - we may be able to offer:

  • Flights from your local airport to your destination, direct or indirect
  • Flights from your local airport to London, connecting on to your destination
  • A choice of alternative airlines and alternative routes
  • Upgrades to premium economy, business class or first class

Also, if you would like to extend your holiday by a few days, we can organise: 

  • Extra nights in the hotel before or after your tour 
  • Pre-booked private airport transfers

Flight schedule changes
When you book a flight-inclusive tour with Explore, your holiday confirmation will contain provisional flight details. The timings, flight numbers or route could change several times before departure. Explore will inform you as soon as possible if there is a change which i) affects your departure or arrival time by more than six hours, ii) moves the tour to a different day or iii) significantly affects the tour itinerary. We suggest that you defer booking any connecting travel to the airport or arrangements such as car parking or overnight hotels until you have received the final invoice, with confirmed travel times. Where Explore are arranging domestic regional flights, these will be automatically rebooked to connect with your international flights. We strongly recommend that you do not purchase non-flexible, non-refundable connecting rail, air or bus tickets, as they usually incur cancellation or penalty charges in the event of a change to the departure time or date.
Seating on flights and trains
Although Explore are unable to assign specific flight or train seats, it is possible to put special requests through to the majority of airlines and train operators. If you have a special request, please tell us at the time of booking. Please be aware that no guarantee can be made that your request will be successful. Failure to grant your request will not be a breach of contract on our part. Sometimes your allocated seats will not be close to other members of your party. We recommend that you check in for your flight or train as early as possible in order to have the best chance of being seated together. If you require specific seats because of a disability, reduced mobility or a medical condition, please make this clear at the time of booking. Subject to safety requirements and availability, EU airlines are required to make all reasonable efforts to arrange seating to meet the requirements of individuals with a disability or reduced mobility. You may be required to provide written confirmation of your disability, reduced mobility or medical condition and fitness to travel from your doctor.
In-flight meals
Although meals are still provided on most international flights, you should be aware that there is a trend towards them not being included on shorter flights, and particularly those within Europe. On many routes with connections within Europe, a meal will be provided on the inter-continental sector, but not on the sector between the UK and the connecting European airport. We cannot therefore guarantee that a meal will be provided on all flights. If you have a special dietary requirement, please let us know at the time of booking. We will send an automated request through to the airline. Please be aware that in most cases airlines do not confirm individual meal requests, so it is worth double checking that the meal has been ordered at check-in.
Banned airlines
In accordance with EU Directive (EC) No 2111/2005 Article 9, we are required to bring to your attention the existence of a “Community list” which contains details of air carriers which are subject to an operating ban within the EU. The Community list is available for inspection at In accordance with EU Regulations we are required to advise you of the actual carrier(s) (or, if the actual carrier(s) is not known, the likely carrier(s)) that will operate your flight(s) at the time of booking. Where we are only able to inform you of the likely carrier(s) at the time of booking, we shall inform you of the identity of the actual carrier(s) as soon as we become aware of this. Any change to the operating carrier(s) after your booking has been confirmed will be notified to you as soon as possible. If the carrier with whom you have a confirmed reservation becomes subject to an operating ban and, as a result, we or the carrier are unable to offer you a suitable alternative the provisions of our Booking Conditions – “If we change your tour” will apply.

Tour Prices - USD/CAD

Prices listed are on a per person basis, sharing accommodation (unless otherwise stated). Land only tour prices do not include international flights. Please refer to the tour notes for details of what is included in the cost.

Rooming on tour & Single Room Option

Most tours are based on customers sharing twin-bedded rooms. If you book as an individual, you will be roomed with someone of the same sex. However, on many tours we offer the opportunity to pay a supplement to pre-book a single room. On some of these tours a single room will be provided at some of the night-stops but for logistical reasons not all. Individual Trip Notes clarify this. If, for whatever reason, we are unable to provide a single room as outlined in the Trip Notes, we will refund a proportion of the supplement paid to us for the Single Room Option.

Single Room Option - Where you are able to purchase a single room, the price does not necessarily guarantee you a single room for every night of the tour. For details please refer to the individual Trip Notes for your chosen trip.

Debit & Credit Card Payments

You can pay the deposit and full amount due by credit or debit card. We accept Visa and, MasterCard. All charges are transacted in the UK in the currency in which your booking is made. We do not charge fees for credit card transactions in USD or CAD. However because all transactions are processed in the UK some banks or credit card companies may charge a foreign transaction fee (even though we will be charging your card in USD or CAD). Any foreign transaction fees are imposed by your bank or credit card issuer and are not charged or collected by Explore. Therefore we recommend you check with your credit card company to see what their policy is with respect to foreign transaction fees as these range from zero to 3% depending on the card used. If you are a regular international traveller we recommend you utilize a credit card that does not impose foreign transaction fees both for your travel needs in general and to pay for your Explore trip.
