What Was The Highlight Or Most Memorable Moment Of Your Tour

I'm an art lover and this was a great way to experience the landscapes of Italian Renaissance painting. It was a thrill to ride past Duccio's house in Siena. My hotel rooom in Siena had stupendous views - like sleeping in a Lorenzetti painting.

How Was Your Explore Tour Leader

She was very organized and helpful, even going so far as to retrieve my luggage from the airport after the airline had lost it. She also chose great hotels, restaurants and wine tastings. I also enjoyed the picnics she created!

What Tips Would You Give To Someone Else Booking This Tour

I'm fit and ride all the time at home, but I thought this was a challenging bike ride. I'd suggest training for it by riding some hills for a few weeks before the tour - there are many hills on this tour. Also, be prepared for some rain. I was surprised how much it rained in October, but it made for some very atmospheric rides through the countryside. Finally, lots of riding on this trip - we typicaly didn't make it to the hotel until late afternoon. I'm not complaining however, as my objective in booking the trip was to spend most of my time cycling.

Do You Have Anything Else To Add

I wish Explore would offer more "moderate" bike rides in Italy and France - especially ones that combine camping and biking, although I know this isn't to everyone's taste. I loved "Dordogne Discovery" and would book it again if offered.

What Was The Highlight Or Most Memorable Moment Of Your Tour

There were many, including beautiful countryside, hill top towns full of history, friendly people and Sienna which encapsulated everything Tuscany had to offer.

How Was Your Explore Tour Leader

Adrienne was excellent, very organised, professional and informative, she insured everything ran smoothly and on schedule. There were three minor accidents involving group members which Adrienne handled very well especially one involving a local motorist.

What Tips Would You Give To Someone Else Booking This Tour

This trip is categorised as moderate which I think is right but there are lot of hill climbs and in the heat (it was 30 degrees + for us) it can be tough. As long as you are reaonably fit and prepared for a hard slog at times, you will be fine. It is very rewarding and of course there is always a cold beer and beautiful views waiting for you at the end of the day. Unlike the two other cycling trips I've done with Explore (South Africa and Cuba), on this one we cycled all the way from one hotel to another - so be prepared to spend all day in the saddle.

Do You Have Anything Else To Add

Accommodation was very good; a couple of the hotels in particular were superb and full of character. In Sienna and Pienza we stayed in the same hotels on two consecutive nights which felt like luxury and a pleasant change. Road conditions were very good for cycling, lots of smooth tarmac and, once you are out of the two main cities, very little traffic. The group gelled really well which enabled us to get the most out of the holiday. This was my first trip to Italy and I couldn't have chosen a better way to do it, it's a shame Explore don't do more cycling trips there.

What Was The Highlight Or Most Memorable Moment Of Your Tour

Hard to pick one, but the stay at Villa Godenano - the perfect Tuscan villa with a gorgeous pool, not to mention the food and wine, and the amazing Campo in Siena and beautiful Tuscan landscapes were all up there.

How Was Your Explore Tour Leader

Adrienne was an excellent leader with great organisational skills complemented by a friendly and easy-going style. Her picnic lunches were fantastic too - a bonus!

What Tips Would You Give To Someone Else Booking This Tour

This was probably the toughest 'moderate' cycling trip I've done, especially in 35 degrees C! There was quite a lot of climbing and busy roads on some days. But the views of the Tuscan countryside were well worth it, the accommodation was all good. Siena especially was amazing and a good place to have a free day. If you want time to see Florence its worth staying an extra day or two.

Do You Have Anything Else To Add

We had a really good standard of bikes on this trip - Scott hybrids with disc brakes. I think we were lucky, I'm not sure they are always provided, but they were a bonus.
