Suitability
Is this the trip for you?
- We've graded the pace of our tour of Northern India as moderate - we'll cover a lot of ground to fit in the highlights so expect some long drives and plenty of early mornings.
- This trip is focused primarily on wildlife, with much of the itinerary made up of wildlife viewing in India's beautiful National Parks. We have still weaved in some cultural experiences, but there is less focus on culture than on other trips.
- Most morings will have an early start to give us the best chance of spotting the tigers while they're most active. That being said, wildlife is elusive and we can't guarantee sightings.
- Wildlife viewing will be taken from open-top 6-person 4WD vehicles, and sometimes over rough terrain. Morning drives can be chilly during the winter months, so it's worth preparing with plenty of layers. It can also be dusty on the track, so bringing a buff to protect your face is recommended
- Jeep safaris in national parks offer an exciting way to experience wildlife in their natural habitat. While the jeeps are built for rough terrain, the rides can be bumpy and may be a little uncomfortable, especially on long drives through uneven tracks.
- While you'll be seated higher up in the jeep, making the ride more thrilling, there may be occasional jostling, especially when exciting wildlife sightings occur. However, your guide will make sure you're as comfortable as possible and ensure your safety throughout the ride.
- All safari vehicles are accompanied by a Forest Guide who is assigned by the park authorities. They are experts are navigating and tracking wildlife in the parks, however some may have limited English. Your Tour Leader will aim to rotate between vehicles to give everyone the chance to ask questions.
- We aim to rotate everyone between jeeps where and when possible. However, due to the rigidity of the national park's booking system, this may not always be possible.
- Please note, since early 2026 the Supreme Court has banned or restricted the use of mobile phones within the core zones in many National Parks across India. This applies to Bandhavgarh, Kanha and Pench Tiger Reserve.
- Our accommodation is chosen based on location and authenticity - while it brings us closer to local life, and nearby (and sometimes inside) National Parks, standards may not meet those of home.
- During this tour, we'll spend one night on a sleeper train - facilities are basic but the experience is an integral part of any journey through India.
- As bustling as it is colourful, India can be an overwhelming destination, but it rewards you with cultural, gastronomic, and historic delights. To fully immerse yourself in this magnificent country, it's best approached with an open mind.
- At Explore, we pride ourselves on sustainable travel, this means respecting and honouring local cultures and traditions. During this tour, we'll visit some temples - during these visits, you should dress appropriately, wearing clothing that covers the wrists and knees.
- The price of all of the safaris is included in the cost of the trip. However as these safaris are all booked in advance, we will require an additional non - non-refundable deposit of 675GBP (or local currency equivalent) at the time of booking.
- Please note, safari vehicles are secured within 120 days of departure due to the limited number of safari vehicles available. It may still be possible to add you onto a trip once the initial game drive vehicles have been confirmed. However, as availability becomes more limited closer to travel, an additional supplement may be required to secure your space.
