- I think this trip was a bit on the bland side- the hotel in Cochin was a large, characterless chain hotel well away from any areas of interest (rooms were available in much more characterful hotels in Cochin old town at the time), the city tour was rushed through in a couple of hours with no opportunities to explore by ourselves.
The hotel in the tea plantations was lovely but there was not much to do as most of the land is covered in tea plantations that are private and cannot be entered while walking on the roads is quite dangerous because of the traffic.
The home stay was actually very nice and the hosts were lovely and the food gorgeous. Lots of opportunities to explore the local area but unfortunately we only had 1 night's stay there, which was a shame.
The nature reserve is not very exciting and very, very busy with people.
The houseboat tour was good but due to the popularity the area is very busy with boats and at times the boats have to sail in large convoys.
The Mararikulam beach resort again was nice enough but quite bland and very, very large. It has the feel of catering to larger, well-off tour groups that want to stay inside a resort and there were warnings everywhere that it wasn't recommended to leave the resort etc. However, a small, local restaurant on the beach produced much nicer fish curry than the resort and we had no issues while eating there or being out an about around the village and the beach.
The organisation of the trip was faultless, the driver punctual, polite and helpful. Due to the distances and the traffic a lot of time was spent in the car though.
It also didn't help that we both came back home with Scabies :(.
