Suitability

Is this the trip for you?

  • Morocco offers a fascinating blend of Arab, Amazigh (Berber) and European influences, and for some travellers it can feel quite different from home. Bustling medinas, lively souks, calls to prayer and a more relaxed pace of life are all part of the experience. Travelling with a tour leader makes it easy to navigate these cultural differences and enjoy an authentic introduction to the country.

  • We've graded the accommodation for this trip as premium, chosen for its character and location. These properties have excellent facilities with a higher level of comfort and service.

  • The pace of this tour is slower than many of our tours in Morocco, but you can still expect longer bus journeys on days seven and eleven. This helps to maximise our time in the Sahara Desert and the High Atlas Mountains.

  • Morocco has a diverse climate and can get very hot in the summer and quite cold in the winter, it's a good idea to check before you travel that you're packing appropriately.

  • We use modern, comfortable vehicles throughout this trip. While air conditioning is available, it may occasionally need to be switched off when climbing mountain roads to prevent the engine from overheating. During warmer months, you may find a small battery-powered fan useful.

  • City sightseeing is mostly on foot, with time spent exploring medinas, souks and historic sites, as well as optional walks in the desert, palm groves and mountains. Comfortable, supportive shoes are essential.

  • While Moroccan cuisine is flavourful and a highlight for many travellers, menus outside of cities can be less varied, with many restaurants specialising in traditional Moroccan dishes.

  • Most dietary requirements can be catered for, including many food allergies. If you have an allergy, please let us know when booking and remind your tour leader, who can help manage arrangements on the ground. You may also wish to bring suitable snacks or specialist food items from home.

  • Alcohol is available in many hotels, restaurants and bars in larger towns and cities, but can be difficult to find in smaller towns and rural areas. Refreshing mint tea is served almost everywhere and is a warm symbol of Moroccan hospitality.

  • Street selling and bartering are common in Morocco, particularly in the souks. A polite but firm "no, thank you" is usually respected, and most locals are friendly and welcoming.

  • Morocco is an Islamic country, and religious holidays such as Ramadan and Eid al-Adha may affect opening hours, traffic and occasionally our itinerary. During Ramadan, you may also hear the pre-dawn call to prayer from nearby mosques, so light sleepers may wish to pack earplugs. There are no planned departures during Ramadan or Eid al-Adha in 2027.
